Panama City, FL (94.5 WFLA) - Shopping for back to school supplies will be a little bit easier on your wallet. The Florida legislature has enacted legislation to extend the annual sales tax holiday for another year. As has been the case in previous years, clothing, foot ware, certain clothing accessories, and certain school supplies will be exempt of state and local sales taxes for the weekend of August 2nd through the 4th.
New for this year, personal computers and certain related accessories for personal use have been added to the sales tax holiday. However, as in years past, books are not exempt from sales taxes during the holiday. Also excluded are purchases in these categories made at theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, or at airports.
In general, clothing items priced under $75 qualify for the sales tax exemption - as do school supplies priced under $15. For personal computers and accessories, the cap is set at $750.
